GOOD VIEWS OF ALCOHOL.

THE N. Y. Independent, in its sanitary department, contains an article from which we clip the following:—
“We do not fear liquor dealers’ associations, or our friend the professor, who says, ‘Wine is poor food and poor medicine, but a very fine drink,’ but rather those who deplore the evils of intemperance and advise well people not to use it, but nevertheless think that a little wine helps the weary, promotes digestion, and assimilates food. If it does that, nearly all mankind ought to use it in moderation; and we despair of decreasing intemperance. But the facts are just the other way, and other means of recruiting so numerous as to justify such use only under very narrowed medicinal restrictions.”
