Thou Knowest, Lord, We Love Thee
By Delvin Rees Buckner
Thou knowest, gentle Lord, our love for Thee,
Before the Father's wrath, but Thou hast stood
To plead for sinful, guilty man; nor could
Another e'er have borne on Calvary
What Thou didst bear, nailed to the shameful tree,
Thou Son of God, who spilledest Thy priceless blood That, flowing like a broken fountain flood,
It might efface our ink iniquity.
Ofttimes we've shown ingratitude full base,
Denying Thee in action or in word.
Yet we, dust-formed, are frail; bear with us still,
And, with Thy palm, we would Thou wouldst efface
Whatever varies from Thy image, Lord,
Remolding us according to Thy will.
