PROTESTANT EPISCOPAL CHURCH.

"Fourth commandment.—Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath-day. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all that thou hast to do; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God, &c. "Remarks.—The Sabbath was observed by the Jews before the giving of the law from Mount Sinai, [Ex. xvi, 23,] and probably had been from the days of Noah; and hence the command begins, Remember, &c., as if it had been a thing previously known, but liable to be forgotten. The day is now changed from the seventh to the first, in commemoration of our Lord's resurrection; but as we meet with no scriptural direction for the change, we may conclude it was done by the authority of the church, under the guidance of the apostles."—Explanation of the Church Catechism, p. 8.
Mark—No scriptural direction for the change.
