1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
By the grace of God believers are what they are before Him, and all that they are comes only from receiving the grace of Christ, with nothing credited to personal merit. That grace means God does not deal with them according to what their faults, errors, and transgressions deserve, but forgives them through mercy meeting them in Christ and writes pardon over them instead of wrath. Such received grace leaves no room for boasting, nor for accusing and exposing others. It calls all who are in partnership with Jesus to follow His example by working to convert and save rather than to ruin, to glorify God even in weakness with a felt sense of their own inefficiency, and to maintain His cause in humility. It implies that He continues to teach them, to bear long with them, to give them new trials and opportunities, and to change them into His image despite their vanity, selfishness, self-esteem, mistakes, and failures.
