Ecclesiastes 7:9

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

The verse warns against being hasty in spirit to become angry, forbidding quickness to flare up under provocation. Anger that is allowed to rest and settle in the heart, in the bosom, is the mark of fools and belongs to folly.

It calls for patience and self-control under trials and provocations, requiring anger to be restrained rather than given expression. Controlling anger instead of speaking in haste preserves respect both for others and for oneself. Patience and self-control keep provocation from turning into harmful words or actions.
