Moses and Israelites Gather Mannaby emmanuel_higgins

Exodus 16:31

And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

The substance given to Israel was white and resembled coriander seed, and its flavor was like that of flat cakes prepared with honey. The household of Israel itself bestowed upon it the name manna. It was gathered as a daily provision from God, and for eating it was ground or beaten and then baked into cakes.

It was the food of angels, bread from heaven bestowed upon Israel. Its miraculous supply in the wilderness was an act of mercy, demonstrating that God was able to meet their needs. The diet sustained physical, mental, and moral strength, so that in spite of the hardships of wilderness life there was not one feeble person among any of the tribes.

Yet even this heavenly provision failed to satisfy Israel. The God who furnished manna to the children of Israel in the wilderness remains the same God still. He stands ready to impart light and knowledge to all who desire to glorify Him, including skill and wisdom for preparing wholesome and palatable foods for hygienic restaurants in the cities.
