Ezekiel 7:19
They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
The verse describes the time of trouble, when sword and famine and pestilence and great confusion come upon the land. To possess wealth is itself no sin, but to withhold it when opportunity was given to use it for the glory of God and the advancement of His cause makes it the stumblingblock of iniquity. In the day of trouble and of divine wrath, when all opportunity to use wealth is past, hoarded silver and gold cannot deliver or save, and in anguish of spirit their owners will cast them away.
The treasure then becomes an offense and falls with crushing weight, because an account must be given of stewardship and of what use was made of money entrusted by the Lord. Self-love had deceived the owners into believing the means were all their own, and their riches deceived them so that they felt poor while living for themselves. They will bitterly learn that their means were only lent by God to be freely returned in His service, and that the portion they might have used for His cause is a terrible burden.
