Isaiah 60:8

Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

The flight as a cloud and as doves to their windows means people from distant lands coming swiftly to God's church and to God's people. This gathering belongs to the promise that peoples with their wealth and resources will come to honor the Lord, because He has glorified His people. The verse stands in the section that defines Christ's work as saving those under Satan's power and setting right what unrighteous scribes and Pharisees had distorted.

The chapter presents the trumpet giving a certain sound proclaiming the gospel message for this time through the ministry of the Word, with a true line of education in every church, missionary work building up human habitations, and varied talents and agencies working like branches of the true vine. They bear sharp strong messages and words of consolation while carrying the third angel's message and uplifting the banner of truth, because conversion is in it, for the law of the Lord is perfect for converting the soul. The swift coming pictures one of the possibilities before God's people if they faithfully do the work given them and carry their message beyond the church and labor for others.

It calls God's people not to hover about large centers enjoying preaching and church privileges but to work outside the church in every city, town, and village. Those who have heard the truth are to impart it to the many who need it and to labor for souls as those who must give an account. The verse gives inspiration and encouragement to those called to take part in God's work on earth to enter new fields and occupy new territory, for all to unite in sowing the gospel seed, and for each to do his appointed work and make that work a specialty. Workers are to move on to new fields after the truth has been preached, not trusting in self but pleading for the Lord's power and grace while Christ and heavenly angels unite with them.

As part of Isaiah 60 and 61, the verse must be studied, heeded, and accepted with faith and thorough consecration, especially by leaders in the cause and those connected with institutions. Its meaning is understood when reformation comes to God's people, when its words are taken and all complaining and evil working are stopped and put away. Then chapters 60 and 61 are understood and chapters 62 to 65 speak in a most decided manner, and the Lord manifests Himself and appears in power for the conviction and conversion of souls, so that many unwarned souls hear the reasons of faith and are warned as to what is truth.

The verse gives confidence that wealthy people, who hold the Lord's money in trust, will come to help sustain worldwide missionary work, and God's workers have a perfect right to ask them for means. It encourages belief that some wealthy men will come and will count it a privilege to give. This coming in of means is for gathering in souls quickly and without waste, because time is short and the Lord's coming is very near though the appointed time is not told. Unless all arouse to be workers together with God as His agencies to bring souls to a knowledge of the truth they cannot be saved.
