Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for human beings because it is God's complete knowledge of each individual person. That completeness embraces thoughts, words, movements, paths and ways, every thought and every way of each one. No one can hide wrongdoing from that knowing, and all will face judgment under it.
That knowing means searching and knowing each one, knowing downsitting and uprising, and understanding thought afar off. It means compassing path and lying down, being acquainted with all ways, and knowing altogether every word in the tongue before it is spoken. It means besetting behind and before and laying the hand upon each one.
This knowledge is too wonderful and too high for human beings to attain, reach, contain, grasp or fully comprehend. Finite minds cannot attain it because it is so high and wonderful, and human understanding cannot reach or contain its fullness. God sees and hears all that people do and say in every person, place and moment, including inward thoughts and motives of the heart. As a constant witness even in the private bedchamber He hears every word uttered and notes every gesture, act and action.
Therefore no one can go from His Spirit or flee from His presence, or escape accountability. If one ascends to heaven He is there, if one makes bed in hell He is there, and if one takes the wings of the morning to the uttermost parts of the sea His hand leads and His right hand holds there. Darkness cannot cover or hide, for the night shines as the day and darkness and light are both alike to Him. Because His knowledge is so high and wonderful, finite people cannot attain it and should not presume to interpret or speculate about God.
Knowledge of God and His presence can be revealed, especially to the pure in heart, but it cannot be fully grasped because His infinite reality extends beyond words and thoughts. Words are too tame to express it and thoughts fall far short of containing it. There are feelings and things belonging to it that cannot be communicated or said.
