Psalms 50:6

And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

When God comes to judge His people and gather His saints who made a covenant with Him by sacrifice, calling heaven and earth to witness and not keeping silence, the heavens declare His righteousness because God Himself is judge. His law is His righteousness, given at Sinai as the rule by which all are judged, and at the final judgment the Ten Commandments appear in the sky made plain to all, showing who kept His requirements and leaving those who rejected them without excuse. In that judgment He testifies against His covenant people to expose empty profession and wrongdoing, and warns them that the daily record of words and conduct is written in the books of heaven and will be met again, so they must repent and be converted that their sins may be blotted out, speak only wise and encouraging words, and offer thanksgiving, faithfulness and praise. At that last great day His own judgment reverses the condemnations His faithful received from earthly tribunals, publicly vindicating and honoring those disgraced for their faith and giving them white robes and the name of the Lord's redeemed, while those who worked on Satan's side in anarchy, war and strife see their fearful loss and how many souls were lost through their failure to stand under Christ's rule. For His covenant people gathered by sacrifice, the day of judgment therefore brings joy rather than fear.

Setting and Righteous Judgment

When God comes to judge His people He does not keep silence but calls heaven and earth to witness as He gathers His saints who made a covenant with Him by sacrifice, and in that coming the heavens declare His righteousness because God Himself is judge. Heaven itself testifies to the rightness of His judgment because the Judge is God in person. That declaration belongs to the final judgment scene in which He comes to judge His own people.

In that gathering He testifies against His covenant people, lays bare empty religious profession and wrongdoing, and calls them to thanksgiving, faithfulness, and praise. His righteousness so declared is His law, proclaimed at Sinai and revealed as the rule by which all are judged. At the final judgment the tables of the law, the Ten Commandments, appear in the sky made plain to all, exposing the difference between the faithful and those who rejected His requirements. Displayed openly they leave those who rejected them without excuse.

In the setting of that judgment every case is reviewed before Him, and a true record of character is kept in the heavenly courts where the heavens bear witness to His righteousness because God Himself is judge.

Vindication and Solemn Warning

At the final judgment God Himself sits as judge, and heaven declares His righteousness in the vindication of His people. The verdicts of earthly tribunals that condemned the faithful are then reversed by His higher judgment. Those who were branded as criminals and put to disgrace for their faith are publicly vindicated and honored. They are clothed in white robes and given the name of the Lord's redeemed.

On that last great day those who have worked on Satan's side in anarchy, war, and strife will stand before His judgment. They will then see their fearful loss and how many souls were lost because they failed to take their stand under the rule of Christ. For His covenant people gathered by sacrifice, that same day of judgment brings joy rather than fear, while heaven declares God's righteousness and God Himself judges.

The verse is to be spoken to the people as a warning, for when God comes and does not keep silent to call heaven and earth to judge His people and gather His saints who made a covenant by sacrifice, the heavens will declare His righteousness because God Himself is judge. The record of words and deportment is written daily in the books of heaven and will be met in the judgment. Each must therefore form character, speak no unpleasant, foolish, or boasting word, but speak wise and encouraging words that will stand the test of the judgment and present the likeness of Christ. In that setting every case is reviewed before Him and a true record of character is kept in the heavenly courts, and the heavens bear witness to God's righteousness because God Himself is judge. This calls people to repent and be converted so their sins may be blotted out.
