Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
Psalm 66:9 is a promise that Jesus stands as a personal friend who holds the soul in life and will not allow the feet to be moved. It means keeping, not merely in general, but the steadying of mind and feet by Christ Himself when the believer cannot steady himself.
It applies in the hour of trouble when a person gives himself up to grief and loses control over words and thoughts and actions. That is the condition of one who feels misjudged and unappreciated and is ready to abandon his work. In that weakened and overwhelmed state Satan presses in to gain control of the intellect.
Deliverance comes by prayer to the Lord and by rebuking the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Then the agony passes, light breaks again over the countenance, and Jesus keeps the mind and the feet steady.
