Psalms 84:10
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
A single day in God's courts is worth more than a thousand days spent elsewhere. Even one day in God's presence is better than a thousand apart from Him, for fellowship with Him outweighs all worldly honor and pleasure. To be a doorkeeper in the house of God, to sit at the threshold, or to do the humblest service in His cause is preferable to dwelling in the tents of wickedness. That lowly place with God is better than living amid the pleasures, honors, and advantages of wickedness, and better than even the most profitable work done for selfish advantage. The choice expresses a heart that longs for God's presence and that values connection, service, and devotion to Him above earthly things and worldly gain.
Moses lived out this preference by choosing affliction with God's people over the highest position in Egypt. He turned from its honors and temporary pleasures because he valued God's reward above earthly riches. He endured by faith, holding fellowship with God as worth more than worldly honor and pleasure. The Lord's courts also picture the future home of the redeemed, where God's people will shine forever. Compared with that enduring life, earthly life is only an imperfect childhood.
