Af-fĭrm'a-tĭve, a.

a. [L. Lat. affirmativus, Fr. affirmatif].

Sense 1. Affirming or asserting; declaratory of what exists; — opposed to negative; as, an affirmative proposition. Watts.

Sense 2. Confirmative; ratifying; as, an act affirmative of common law.

Sense 3. Positive; dogmatic. [Obs.]
