[Fr. anecdote, from Gr. ἀνέκδοτος, not published, from ἀν priv. and ἔκδοτος, given out, from ἐκδιδόναι, to give out, to publish, from ἐκ, away, out, and διδόναι, to give.] A particular or detached incident or fact of an interesting nature; a biographical incident or fragment; a single passage of private life.
