A-nĕnt’, prep.
[O. Eng. anen, anent, anentis, aneyntis, anenst. It is probably derived from the prefix a and A-S. neán, near, nigh. In some of its applications it seems to be put for A-S. ongean, ongeon, agen, Eng. against. Cf. Gr. ἐναντί, ἔναντα, opposite, over against.] [Scottish and Prov. Eng.]
- About; concerning; as, he said nothing anent this particular.
- Over against; as, he lives anent the church.
