A-pŏph'a-sis, n.

n. [Gr. ἀπόφασις, denial, negation, from ἀποφάναι, to speak out, also to deny, from ἀπό, from, and φάναι, to say.] (Rhet.) A waiving or omission of what one would plainly insinuate; as, “I will not mention another argument, which, however, if I should, you could not refute.”
