Ăs′ymp-tōte, n.
(ăs′/ĭm-tōt, sometimes pron. a-sĭm′-tōt) (Synop., § 130), n. [Gr. ἀσύμπτωτος, not falling together, from ἀ priv. and συμπίπτειν, to fall together, from σύν, with, and πίπτειν, to fall, πτωτός, falling, apt to fall.] [Math.] A line which approaches nearer and nearer to some curve; but, though infinitely extended, would never meet it. This may be conceived as a tangent to a curve at an infinite distance.
