Be-trŏth', v. t.

v. t. [be and troth, i. e., truth, q. v. Cf. D. betrouwen.]

1. To contract to any one, in order to a future marriage; to promise or pledge to be the future spouse of another; to affiance; — used of either sex. “To her, my lord, was I betrothed.” Shak.
2. To contract with for a future spouse; to espouse.
