Chăl'dron, n.

noun

(Synop., § 130), n. [O. Fr. chauldron, now chaudron, kettle. The same word as caldron, which see.] A dry measure formerly used for most goods sold by this kind of measure, but now entirely confined to coals, containing at London thirty-six bushels, or twenty-five and a half hundred weight. It varies, however, in usage, as at Newcastle, at Pictou, and in the United States.
