Ĕl/o-hĭst'ic, a.

adjective

a. [Heb. elohim.] Relating to Elohim as a name of God;—said of those passages in the books in the Old Testament, especially the Pentateuch, which are characterized by the use of Elohim, instead of Jehovah, as the name of the Supreme Being.

It has been found that the Elohistic pieces contain ideas which are wanting in the Jehovistic: while the Jehovistic sections present ideas foreign to the Elohistic. S. Davidson.
