Ē'mū, n.
n. (Ornith.) A bird of very large size, found in Australia, the Dromaius Nova Hollandicæ, related to the cassowary and the ostrich. It is very fleet of foot, but, like the ostrich, is unable to fly. [Written also emeu and emew.]
☞ The name is sometimes erroneously applied, by the Brazilians, to the rhea, or South American ostrich.
