Fōx'-glōve, n.
n. (Bot.) A handsome biennial plant (Digitalis purpurea), whose leaves are used as a powerful medicine, both as a sedative and diuretic; — probably so called from the fancied resemblance of the flowers to the fingers of a glove. To keep her slender fingers from the sun, Pan through the pastures oftentimes hath run To pluck the speckled fox-gloves from their stem, And on those fingers neatly placed them. W. Browne.
