Gal-văn'ic Pile
The original form of the apparatus used by Volta to produce a current of dynamical electricity. It consisted of a pile of alternate silver and zinc disks, laid up with disks of paper or cloth between them, moistened with brine or acid water. The more usual materials are now copper and zinc in alternate disks.
