In-tĕr'ro-gā'tion, n.
n. [Lat. interrogatio, Fr. interrogation, Pr. interrogatio, Sp. interrogacion, It. interrogazione.]
- The act of questioning; examination by questions.
- A question put; an inquiry.
- A point, mark, or sign, thus [?], indicating that the sentence immediately preceding it is a question;—used also to express doubt, or to mark a query;—called also interrogation point; as, “Does Job serve God for naught?”
☞ In works printed in the Spanish language this mark is not only placed at the end of an interrogative sentence, but is also placed, inverted, as thus [¿], at the beginning, in order that the reader may at once perceive that the sentence is a question.
