Krā'ken, n.
n. [Probably from O. Sw. krake, O. Dan. krage, the trunk or stem of a tree, the branches of which are not entirely cut off, to which it was compared, from its clumsy form, by the Norwegian mariners who saw it first.] A fabled sea animal of enormous size.
To believe all that has been said of the sea-serpent or kraken, would be credulity; to reject the possibility of their existence would be presumption. Goldsmith.
