(-wŭrt), n. (Bot.) A plant between the lichens and mosses, of a loose cellular texture, usually procumbent, with rootlets from the frond-like confluent leaf and stem. In some, the leaf and stem are distinct. They are found in moist places, on rocks, &c. Gray.
