Mā'ter, n.

n. [Lat., mother, allied to Gr. μήτηρ, μάτηρ, Ger. mütter, Eng. mother, Ir. mathair, Slav. mati, Per. mâder, O. Per. mâta, Skr. mâtri. See MOTH-ER.] (Anat.) One of the two membranes that cover the brain, and are distinguished from each other by the epithets dura and pia.
