(mĭz'l-to), n. [A.-S. misteltā, O. H. Ger. mistil, N. H. Ger., Dan., & Sw. mistel, D. mistelboom. Cf. MISSELDINE.] (Bot.) A parasitic evergreen plant (Viscum album), bearing a glutinous fruit. The radicle is peculiar in always turning toward the object to which the plant is attached. When found upon the oak, where it is rare, it was an object of superstitious regard among the Druids. A bird-lime is prepared from its fruit. [Written also misletoe and misseltoe.] Lindley. Loudon.
