Mō'rus, n.
n. (Bot.) A genus of plants, some species of which produce edible fruit; the mulberry. ☞ M. alba is the white mulberry, the leaves of which are extensively used for feeding silk-worms, for which it furnishes the chief food.—M. multicaulis, the many-stemmed or Chinese mulberry, a native of the Philippine Islands, but introduced into India and Europe, is also used for feeding silk-worms, and in some places is cultivated in preference to the white mulberry, on account of the greater abundance of its leaves.—M. nigra, the black mulberry, produces a dark-colored fruit, of an agreeable flavor.
