Nōs'toc, n.

n. (Bot.) A greenish, gelatinous, translucent plant (Tremella nostoc), that develops rapidly after rain, in wet places. It is a species of Alga, and is popularly supposed to be fallen stars; hence called star-jelly, and also called witches'-butter.
