Păr'a-chute, n.

(păr'a-shūt, 110), n. [Fr., from parer, to ward off, guard, and chute, a fall. See CHUTE.] A contrivance somewhat in the form of an umbrella, by means of which any thing may be sent down from a balloon without danger of too rapid motion.
