Prō'to-plāṣm, n.

n. [Gr. πρῶτος, first, and πλάσμα, form, from πλάσσειν, to mold.] (Physiol.) The viscid, nitrogenous material in vegetable cells, by which the process of nutrition, secretion, and growth, goes forward; the vital vegetable substance. See CELL. Mohl.
