Sēm'ble, v. i.
(sēm/bl), v. i. [Fr. sembler, Pr. & Sp. semblar, It. semblare, sembrare, sembiare. See SEMBLABLE.]
- To imitate; to make a representation or likeness. [Obs.] “Where sembling art may carve the fair effect?” Prior.
- (Law.) To seem; — chiefly used impersonally, meaning it seems, and expressive of an opinion in reference to the law on some point not necessary to be decided, and not intended to be definitely settled in the cause. It is commonly used before the statement of a point of law which has not been directly settled, but about which the court has intimated their opinion. Bouvier.
