Ship'-worm, n.
n. (Zoöl.) A worm-like lamellibranchiate mollusk, of the genus Teredo, something like the long clam. It burrows in wood, and secretes a lining of shell, within which it lives. It is very destructive to timber wherever this is exposed to its attack, and is common every where except in the coldest seas.
