Tēs'ter, n.

n. [From O. Fr. teste, the head, N. Fr. tête, Pr., Sp., Pg., & It. testa, from Lat. testa, an earthen pot, the skull.]

  1. A flat canopy, as over a pulpit, tomb, and the like. Oxf. Gloss.
  2. The top covering of a bed, consisting of some species of cloth, supported by the bedstead. “No tester to the bed, and the saddles and portmanteaus heaped on me to keep off the cold.” H. Walpole.
