Thrice, adv.
[O. Eng. thries, from three, with the termination of a genitive; A-S. thriga, thriwa.] 1. Three times. Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Matt. xxvi. 34. Thrice is he armed that hath his quarrel just. Shak. 2. Repeatedly; earnestly; emphatically; very. *Thrice noble lord, let me entreat of you To pardon me. Shak.* ☞ Thrice is often used in composition, generally with an intensive force; as in thrice-blessed, thrice-favored, thrice-hallowed, thrice-happy, thrice-told, thrice-worthy, and the like.
