Triv'i-ūm, n.
n. [L. Lat. trivium. See TRIVIAL.] The three arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric;—so called because they constitute a triple way, as it were, to eloquence.
☞ The quadrivium was the four arts, music, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy. The trivium and quadrivium together made up the seven liberal sciences.
