Tŭnk'er, n.
n. [Fr. Ger. tunken, to dip. Cf. DUNKERS.] (Eccl.) One of a denomination of Seventh-day Baptists, in Pennsylvania, originating in 1724, and taking its name from the mode of baptizing converts by plunging;—called also Dunkards. They wear a peculiar dress, and do not shave the head or beard; the men and women live in separate habitations; marriage is allowed, but celibacy is regarded as a virtue. They are less rigid than formerly in these particulars.
