Vĕnd1, v. t.
v. t. [imp. & p. p. VENDED; p. pr. & vb. n. VENDING.] [Fr. & Pr. vendre, Sp. & Pg. vender, It. & Lat. vendere.] To transfer to another person for a pecuniary equivalent; to make an object of trade; to dispose of by sale; to sell; as, to vend goods; to vend meat and vegetables in market.
☞ Vend differs from barter. We vend for money; we barter for commodities. Vend is applicable only to wares, merchandise, or other small articles, not to lands and tenements. We never say, to vend a farm, a lease, or a bond, a right, or a horse.
