(wōrd'n), n. [O. Eng. wardein, O. Fr. wardein, gardain, gardain, N. Fr. gardien. See GUARDIAN and supra.] 1. A keeper; a guardian. He called to the wardens on the outside battlements. W. Scott.

2. An officer who keeps or guards; a keeper; as, the warden of the Fleet or Fleet prison.
3. A large, hard pear, chiefly used for baking and roasting.
