Christ’s Kingdom

WHEN, WHERE AND HOW Will It Be Set Up?

The Different Phases of this Question are Engaging the Attention of Many People To-Day. What Does the Bible Say About It? Note the Following Publications which Show what God has Revealed Concerning the Matter:

BIBLE STUDENTS’ LIBRARY

Manner of Christ’s Coming—No. 124

This seems to be a perplexing question to many, but is fully settled in this tract. The writer takes up the various passages that speak of the coming of the Lord, and gives the original meaning. His coming as a thief, coming to judgment, and second personal coming, are clearly distinguished. Price 1 cent; per hundred 72 cents.

The Great Day of the Lord—No. 65

There is wide diversity of opinion in the Christian world in regard to the character, length, and scope of the great day of the Lord, as well as its relation to man. In the light of the Scriptures, the writer makes clear this important subject. Price, 2½ cents each; per hundred, $1.74.

We Would See Jesus—No. 173

This tract is a strong appeal on the personal and soon coming of Christ, giving the scriptural foundation for this blessed hope. Every Christian will be encouraged by reading it, and the indifferent aroused to a sense of their need. Many thousands already sold. Price 1 cent; per hundred 72 cents.

The Temporal Millennium—No. 121

This tract defines the word millennium, and shows when and where the millennial reign with Christ, as brought to view in Revelation 20, will take place. Those acquainted only with the popular view of this subject will be especially interested in reading this tract. Price, 1½ cents each; per hundred, $1.10.

Babylon is Fallen—No. 169

In Rev. 14:8 we have the statement, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” The tract answers the questions, What is Babylon? What is her fall? and What the remedy and salvation from her ruin? and how it concerns us at the present time. Price, 1½ cents each; per hundred, $1.10.

What Do These Things Mean—No. 176

This tract treats the subject of Capital and Labor showing the end of the struggle; and the only solution of the world’s great industrial and financial problems. Good Bible instruction is given that should regulate the actions of all in the perplexing situation. Price 1 cent; per hundred 72 cents.

Waymarks to the Holy City—No. 115

A study of the 7th chapter of the book of Daniel, in which is brought to view four great beasts, representing four universal kingdoms of the earth. The work of the little horn which was to make war with the saints is discussed, and its final ending portrayed. Then comes the glorious kingdom which was given to the saints of the Most High. Illustrated. Price, 1 cent each; per hundred 72 cents.

Signs of Our Times—No. 174

Intelligent people are alarmed at the outlook of the world to-day. While much in the world betokens advancement and prosperity, many things cause anxiety and alarm. Discovery and progress have not brought contentment and peace. Troubles and perplexities, discontent and strife are everywhere. People look on with fear and dread at what is coming, but few look to the source of light and help—the Bible. The object of the tract is to point out the signs, and shed scriptural light on the same that brings comfort to the believer. Price 1 cent; per hundred 75 cents.

Gospel Remedy for Present-Day Isms—No. 175

This tract deals with Spiritualism, Hypnotism, Christian Scientism, Higher Criticism, etc. Every one is more or less familiar with these isms, as they are quite common. Many accept these teachings because they are looking for a manifestation of supernatural power. But the writer believes them to be a dark system of error, and exerting an influence against the pure and simple teachings of the gospel—the power of God. You will be interested in the conclusions drawn. Price 1 cent; per hundred 72 cents.

PAMPHLETS

Matthew Twenty-four

This pamphlet contains a strong exposition of the second coming of Christ, based on the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew. It is a verse-to-verse study of that most interesting and instructive chapter. Many thousands of this little work have been sold, and still the demand is great. You can not use your time and money better than to buy it, read it, and circulate it everywhere. Price 10 cents.

Marshaling of the Nations

A pamphlet of 44 pages, dealing with the movements of the great nations of to-day, showing how a few great powers are rapidly gaining control of the whole world. There is a meaning in all this that concerns every one, and the writer brings forth light from the divine Word for our consideration and profit. There are several instructive maps, showing the partitioning of the world as it is being made. Price, 10 cents each.

The Sure Word of Prophecy

This pamphlet takes up the study of the book of Daniel, dealing with the important and wonderful prophecies of that book. We are told in the Bible that “we have a more sure word of prophecy whereunto ye do well to take heed.” We may therefore expect to find revealed therein important, instructive, and what most wonderfully interesting things. This little work certainly meets this need, and sheds forth beams of light into the dark mysteries of coming events, as well as those now present. These events concern us and our nation and the whole world. We do well, therefore, to read and take heed. Illustrated. Price 10 cents.

ENVELOPE SIZE

The Coming of Our Lord—No. 40

The first part of this tract is based on the text wherein it is stated that certain Greeks came up to worship at the feast, and said “Sir, we see Jesus.” The latter part is on the subject, “Why Speak of Christ’s Coming?” Brief but to the point. Price 3 cents, or 36 cents per hundred.

The Winning of Margaret—No. 53

A remarkably interesting tract, relating how a whole family became interested in the coming of the Lord, through the visit of a missionary and a Bible study on the subject. As the study proceeds, different members of the family read passages of Scripture and bring out other facts in an attractive way. Will be read where others might be laid aside. Price 1 cent; 72 cents per hundred.

Heralds of His Coming—No. 51

Is it a literal coming? Is the end really near? May we know the time? These are a few of the questions treated in the tract. Some of the special signs of Christ’s second coming are pointed out, and a very interesting chart produced, portraying in a vivid manner the points dwelt on in the tract. Price, 1½ cents each; per hundred, 98 cents.

The Great Threefold Message—No. 47

While the Gospel, or God’s plan for saving man, has always been the same, it has had special saving truths connected with it for each generation. In this tract a great threefold message for our day is brought to light, and offered to the world as God’s remedy for the ills of Christendom. Price, 1 cent each; per hundred, 72 cents.

The Return of the Jews—No. 62

The subject treated in this tract is one that has attracted the general attention of Bible readers, but unfortunately is not well understood. The writer presents the subject from the standpoint of God’s promise to Abraham, clearly showing who are the true Israel, and when and where they will be gathered. Illustrated. Price, 2 cents each; per hundred, $1.32.

Turning Back the Wheels.—

New York City politically turned back the wheels of progress when it set aside Mayor Seth Low, the only man who for years has given the city a good administration, and elected the Tammany ticket with its millions of dollars of boodle and corruption of every kind and form. The “people love to have it so, but what will ye do in the end thereof?”

Zionist Colony Plans in Uganda

The distinguished English writer, Mr. Arnold White, declares that the Zionist Colony plans in Uganda, British East Africa, are like the similar plans of Baron de Hirsch in Argentine Republic, foredoomed to fail. In the first place it is difficult to get the Jews to leave Russia unless it be for Palestine; in the second place, the climate is inhospitable and the land too far from market; and in the third place, the Jews do better in trading among Gentiles. The true Israel of God will not colonize again in this world. It is their work to scatter the seeds of truth. The gathering home to their own land of the children of promise will be when Christ comes.

God’s Infinite Knowledge, Power, Wisdom, and Love

Only infinite knowledge knows how to save man; only infinite power is able to save man; only infinite wisdom knows how to use the knowledge and power; and only infinite love would stoop to save man. Our God and Saviour is infinite in knowledge and power, in wisdom and in love.

This One Thing I Do

The one purpose of Paul was to do God's will. “This one thing I do” was the way he phrased it. Persecuted, chased from city to city, he still cries, “This one thing I do.” When whipped and thrown into the prison bleeding, it did not discourage him. He buckled on his armor anew, and cried, “This one thing I do.” When stoned and left for dead, he arose not a whit shaken in his purpose. He sets his face to the dawn and shouts, “This one thing I do.” God wants the same purpose in His soldiers now.

New Sayings of Jesus Found in Egypt

A new “find” has been made in that graveyard of ancient documents, Egypt; and this time it includes some new “sayings” of our Lord, at least they are called such, because each one is prefaced by the term, “Jesus saith.” They seem to be, so far as anything we have yet learned, merely some one’s memory statement in general terms of what Jesus taught. These papyri were found at El Hibeh, 100 miles south of Cairo, by Dr. Bernard P. Grenfell. It is supposed that these sayings are a part of the traditional Gospel of St. Thomas. They will be tested by the authentic Gospels. The date of these documents is about A. D. 137. A Latin text of the epistle to the Hebrews is said to be in the collection, and an epitome of Livy’s six last books. Among these papyri is one containing a contract whereby a slave boy was to be taught shorthand for 120 drachma ($24), 40 drachma down, 40 on satisfactory evidence of progress, and 40 on attaining proficiency. Very modern in its putting; or rather, we are ancient.

A Wonderful Memory

Lord Macaulay had a most wonderful memory, and he tells us in his own words how he cultivated it:—
When a boy I began to read very earnestly, but at the foot of every page I read I stopped and obliged myself to give an account of what I had read on that page. At first I had to read it three or four times before I got my mind firmly fixed. But I compelled myself to comply with the plan, until now when I have read a book through once, I can almost recite it from beginning to end.
This is a splendid method. To this plan the Christian Advocate adds the following: “He [the reader] should form his own opinion of the value of the matter. If this plan seems too troublesome another is almost as good, and that is, to review mentally each chapter. Even then, if one wishes never to forget, he would do well to mark the passages that most deeply impress him and reread them carefully when he finishes the book; and under all circumstances remember the name of the author, and distinguish between quotations and his own matter.” This is good advice in the light of recent and frequent charges of plagiarism.

Mormon Sealing and a Widow’s Claim

In a lawsuit in Salt Lake City the evidence seems clear that plural marriages are still clearly in vogue under the doctrine of sealing. In the case in question a Miss A. when very ill was sealed to a Dr. Park for eternity, that she might have a resurrection. She recovered and married another man, a policeman, Mr. H., and is the mother of five children. During all this time, the man to whom she was sealed, Dr. Park, was still alive. When he died, Mrs. H. filed suit against Dr. Park's executors for a widow's share of the estate. It is a fight within the Mormon Church. According to the news despatch, Charles W. Penrose, a high priest, admitted “that, when a couple are sealed, it is optional with them before the ceremony is performed, whether they are to live together or not, and that should they change their minds after the ceremony has been performed and cohabit, their relations in the eye of the church and under the laws would not be unlawful. He also brought out the intimation that a man or woman who sealed for eternity could marry by the State laws.”

Conservation of Individual Rights

The conservation of the rights of the individual, without regard to class or creed, is the only thing which will bring “the greatest good to the greatest number.”

One of the Reasons

One of the Reasons.—One of the contributory causes of Mayor Low’s downfall in New York City, Mr. Gustavus Myers tells us in the Independent, was the enforcing of the “blue laws” in “the closing of stores, such as candy, cigar and stationery stores on Sunday. This policy aroused a blazing popular indignation, which was all the evident merits of Mayor Low’s administration could counterbalance.” Such legislation is worthy of rebuke. Its influence is not to discountenance wrong, but to elevate a religious institution. If it is wrong to sell anything on Sunday, it is wrong to sell it on any other day. The wrong is in the thing, and not in the day. To license a thing on all days but Sunday is a virtual indorsement of it on those days, and to prohibit its sale on Sunday is not a blow on the thing prohibited, but the exaltation of Sunday; and that is religious legislation, pure and simple, an evil in all lands and all ages. It was a dead fly in Mr. Low’s ointment.

False Christs and Prophets

False Christs and Prophets.—We have now in this country “Manna Mysteria,” of Brooklyn, a woman who claims to be the reincarnation of Christ; John Alexander Dowie, of Chicago, who declares himself to be Elijah III., the Restorer; F. W. Sandford, Shiloh, Maine, the “one shepherd,” “David My King,” etc., etc.; and Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, with her mass of contradictory mysticisms called “Christian Science.” All these gather their disciples around themselves. Each system makes the one person essential to salvation and success. Each of them is based in some way on the ancient falsehood, “Ye shall not surely die;” “Ye shall be as God.” Many of the disciples are sincere and better than the system and its logic. Their goodness is not because of the isms with which they are connected, but in spite of them. All these isms are contrary to His Word.

Methodist Ministers in Politics

The Methodist ministers of San Francisco took an active part in the late municipal election. According to the Examiner, they issued and circulated a little ticket of their own, and for a week electioneered for their candidates with all the determination of professional politicians. Their efforts were especially directed to the election of candidates for supervisor. At a special meeting of the Methodist Association, the favored candidates were selected from those of three parties to the municipal controversy. “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please Him who hath shown him to be a soldier.” 2 Tim. 2:3, 4.

“Whisky!” A Good Opportunity.

Mr. D. E. Scoles, formerly of Washburn, Mo., published there a number of small tracts, among them an excellent one on “Whisky,” containing a large variety of selections and original matter on the subject. This formerly sold at 5 cents a copy, $3.50 per 100; but now that Brother Scoles is closing out his publishing business, he offers these little booklets at 90 cents per 100, or $7.00 per 1,000. It is a good tract and cheap at that price. Temperance papers have spoken of it highly. Address, Rolla, Mo.

Education and Morality

One-fifth of the entire population of this country was last year enrolled in the public schools. Adding to these those enrolled in private schools of all grades, and in other educational institutions high and low, except colleges and universities, and nearly one-fourth of the country's population is in school. The exact number is placed at 18,080,840 pupils. If mere intellectual learning will make people better, there ought to be a far greater improvement in morals.

Life Power Through Righteousness by Faith

One in every three deaths in New York City is said to be caused by consumption, and one physician estimates economic loss at $25,000,000 annually. More life power is what people need, and this is found in the law of righteousness by faith in the Righteous One.

Christ Died to Save You

Christ died to save you, reader, whoever you are. All that He asks of you is to recognize your need and yield your case to Him with all your heart.

False Prophets

False prophets invariably draw men to themselves; the true prophet, the true minister, to his Master.
