Though the Heaven's Fall

Emmanuel Higgins

Lyrics

In a world of fraud where justice is for sale
And cries of want are heard to no avail.
God calls for men of purpose, strong and true.
A character that trials can't undo.
This moral worth, more precious far than gold
Is not inherited, bought, or sold.
It's formed by effort, in the face of sin
A noble purity shining from within

The greatest want of the world is the want of men
Men who will not be bought or sold
Men who in their inmost souls are true and honest,
Men who do not fear to call sin by its right name,
Men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole,
Men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.

In every home, a sacred work should start
To mold the mind and purify the heart.
From earliest years, with diligence and care
Instruct the young in earnest, fervent prayer.
For many ills that in the church we trace
Began within that childhood training place.
So teach them self-denial, firm and true
In all they think and all they say and do.

This fleeting life, our school of sacred test
Is where we build a character for heaven;
So wage the war, the battle with self
And seek for grace that is so freely given.
Don't plead excuse that others went astray
Or think your own good merits can atone;
His perfect righteousness must be your stay
Accept the spotless robe from Christ alone.

The greatest want of the world is the want of men
Men who will not be bought or sold
Men who in their inmost souls are true and honest,
Men who do not fear to call sin by its right name,
Men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole,
Men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.

...stand for the right though the heavens fall.
