A Prayer for Daily Communion and Spiritual Growth

Is daily prayer as essential to your soul as food is to your body?

Create a prayer about the need of daily time with God

Heavenly Father, we come before You recognizing that daily prayer is as essential to our spiritual life and growth in grace as temporal food is to our physical well-being. We ask for Your strength to establish and maintain the family altar, seeking You daily with the same earnestness we would bring to a religious assembly.

Help us to prioritize these sacred moments:

  • Morning Devotion: When we rise, may we kneel at our bedsides to ask for strength for our daily duties and grace to meet every temptation. It is our privilege to open our hearts and let the sunshine of Your presence in before we see the face of man.

  • Constant Communion: Teach us to walk with You as Enoch did, lifting our thoughts to You even amid the rush of business or while walking in the street. May prayer be the very breath of our souls, sustaining our inner life through every hour.

  • Secret Prayer: Grant us a love for the closet, where our souls are laid bare before Your inspecting eye and where we obtain the power to resist the devices of Satan. Let us never neglect this secret communion, for it is the source of light that guides our feet in the paths of righteousness.

  • Study of the Word: As we pray, lead us to search the Scriptures daily with an earnest desire to know and do Your will. May Your Word be a lamp to our feet, protecting us from the deceptions of these last days.

Lord, we confess that we have often allowed secular business and the cares of this life to crowd out our time with You. We realize that apart from You we can do nothing, and to separate ourselves from Christ for even one moment is not safe.

Renew our hearts daily, that we may reflect Your character to the world around us. May our lives be hid with Christ in God, so that when the King appears in His beauty, we may be ready to meet Him in peace. We offer these petitions in the name of Jesus, who kneeled and prayed to give us an example Luke 22:41. Amen.
