Finding Wholeness and Resilience in Modern Times
How can active service and the power of the will help you overcome depression?
wholeness, lifestyle, and oil = faith and resilience to navigate living in 2026 and its struggles between loneliness, depression, financial limitations and lust and temptations
AdventAI
Achieving true wholeness and resilience in the face of modern struggles requires a lifestyle of firm self-control, constant dependence on divine power, and a commitment to spiritual and physical health. By uniting our wavering human will with the unwavering will of God, we gain the strength necessary to overcome loneliness, depression, and the various temptations that assail us.
Navigating Loneliness and Depression
Loneliness and depression are often rooted in a lack of useful occupation or a mind not stayed on God.
Active Service: Sharing in the daily routine of work and performing everyday duties brings a peace that guards against discontent.
Focusing on Others: Engaging in useful labor to lighten the burdens of others is a primary remedy for despondency and helps prevent us from brooding over imaginary sorrows.
Mental Outlook: A cheerful spirit is literal health to the body, while gloominess and sadness are fruitful causes of disease.
Divine Companionship: When we feel forgotten or solitary, we must remember we have a sympathizing Friend and Counselor in Christ who has made provision for every situation.
Overcoming Financial Limitations and Stress
Financial pressure can lead to deep discouragement, but faith provides a perspective that transcends material lack.
Trust in Providence: Even when facing destitution or foreclosures, we are encouraged to talk of faith, hope, and courage rather than unbelief.
Simplicity and Economy: Learning lessons of self-denial, industry, and the value of money is an essential education that builds real worth of character.
Avoiding Extravagance: We are to strip ourselves of luxuries and unnecessary articles of diet to alleviate the distress of those in need, finding satisfaction in benevolence.
God’s Care: Those who love and fear God may be surrounded by a multitude of cares, yet God takes care of them in the place where it is their duty to be.
Victory Over Lust and Temptation
The struggle against the passions of the natural heart is a lifelong conflict that requires constant vigilance and divine aid.
Controlling Appetite: Many temptations, including those of a sensual nature, begin with the indulgence of perverted appetite, which deadens the perception of sacred things.
The Power of the Will: Through the right exercise of the will and yielding it to Christ, we receive strength from above to live a pure and noble life victorious over lust.
Subduing the Lower Nature: It is a solemn obligation to keep the body healthy and the spirit pure, ensuring the animal nature does not predominate over the intellectual and moral faculties.
The Shield of Faith: The earnest prayer of faith baffles Satan's strongest efforts, and as we persevere, God sends heavenly reinforcements to deliver us.
The Oil of Faith and Spiritual Health
A lifestyle of holiness is maintained only through constant dependence on the Savior and the sanctifying power of His Word.
Abiding in Christ: Just as we first received Him, we are to walk in Him by giving our entire heart and will to Him and taking His fullness as our strength Colossians 2:6.
Character Building: Character is the work of a lifetime, requiring meditation, prayer, and the courage to resist every pernicious habit of self-indulgence.
Divine Nature: By laying hold of the exceeding great and precious promises, we become partakers of the divine nature and escape the corruption of the world 2 Peter 1:4.
Constant Prayer: The light and strength gained today will not suffice for tomorrow; we must seek the Lord daily to avoid making the greatest mistakes.
True happiness is not found in a course of indulgence but in obedience to the law of God and a conscience at peace. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song Isaiah 12:2. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much Luke 16:10. Every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things 1 Corinthians 9:25. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof Romans 6:12. Your life can be a casting of sunshine instead of a shadow if you encourage a happy frame of mind and rest in the love of Jesus.
