The Three Persons of the Godhead Explained
Is the Holy Spirit a mere influence or a distinct personal agency?
The correct view of the trinity
AdventAI
The correct view of the Trinity is the absolute, foundational belief in three distinct, divine, and co-eternal persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—who constitute the one true God. While some pioneers historically held different views because they associated the term "Trinity" with certain human inventions and unscriptural definitions used by other denominations, the light given through the Spirit of Prophecy has clarified that these three heavenly powers are united in purpose and nature to accomplish the plan of redemption.
The Three Persons of the Godhead 🕊️
The Godhead is a perfect unity of three living persons who are pledged to be the strength and efficiency of every believer.
The Father: He is the source of all life and worked perfectly with the Son in the creation of the world Genesis 1:26.
The Son: Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, possessing life that is original, unborrowed, and underived. He is the "I AM," existing from all eternity as the equal of the Father John 8:58.
The Holy Spirit: The Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, a distinct personality who convicts of sin and works to restore the moral image of God in human beings.
Jesus Christ: The Infinite Source of Life 🛡️
It is vital to understand that Christ’s divinity is not derived or secondary; He possesses the very attributes of the Godhead in His own right Colossians 2:9.
Pre-existence: Christ was with the Father from the beginning, and His existence did not start at His advent to this world.
Fullness of Divinity: In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, providing the believer with the absolute assurance of eternal life Colossians 2:9.
Redemption: To lower our conception of Christ's divinity is to undermine the work of redemption, for only a divine Saviour could bridge the gulf caused by sin.
The Nature and Work of the Holy Spirit ✨
The Holy Spirit is the vicegerent of Christ, sent to the world as a token of the Redeemer’s inauguration in heaven.
A Personal Agency: The Spirit is not a mere influence but the third person of the Godhead who recreates and sanctifies the soul.
Divine Mystery: While the nature of the Spirit remains a mystery too deep for human understanding, His work is seen in the transformation of character.
Conditions for Indwelling: Because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we are called to live lives of temperance and purity 1 Corinthians 6:19.
Unity in the Godhead 🤝
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit gave themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption with perfect unanimity. This unity is celebrated in the baptismal covenant, where believers are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit Matthew 28:19. Any teaching that denies the deity of Christ or the personality of the Spirit is a dangerous error that separates the soul from the channel of communication with Heaven. We must press together in the faith of Jesus, looking unto Him as the Author and Finisher of our faith Hebrews 12:2.
