The Investigative Judgment: Understanding the Heavenly Sanctuary Court
What is the primary goal of Christ's work in the heavenly court?
Investigative judgement
AdventAI
The investigative judgment is a solemn and final work of examination currently taking place in the heavenly sanctuary to determine who is prepared for the kingdom of God. This process began in 1844 at the expiration of the 2,300-day prophecy of Daniel 8:14 and is the antitypical fulfillment of the ancient Day of Atonement.
🏛️ The Nature of the Heavenly Court
The investigative judgment is the first stage of the final judgment, occurring while people are still living on the earth.
The Tribunal: The "Ancient of Days," God the Father, presides over the court, attended by millions of heavenly angels Daniel 7:9-10.
The Records: Celestial books are opened that contain a perfect record of every person's life, including their words, deeds, and most secret motives Matthew 12:36-37.
The Scope: This specific judgment is limited to the "house of God"—those who have at some point professed faith in Christ and had their names entered into the Book of Life 1 Peter 4:17.
⏳ Purpose and Timing
This work is the closing ministration of Christ, our great High Priest, in the Most Holy Place of the heavenly temple.
Atonement and Blotting Out: The primary goal is the final remission or "blotting out" of sins from the record and the determination of who will have their names retained in the Book of Life Acts 3:19.
The 1844 Commencement: Based on the prophetic link between Daniel 8-9 the 2,300 years began in 457 BC and terminated in 1844 AD, at which point Christ entered the Most Holy Place.
Sequence of Cases: The judgment began with the dead and will eventually pass to the cases of the living. When this work concludes, probation for the human race will end.
🕊️ The Role of Jesus as Advocate
Every soul with a case pending at this tribunal has an opportunity for a favorable decision through our Representative.
The Advocate: Jesus Christ stands before the Father to plead His own blood on behalf of those who have truly repented 1 John 2:1.
The Outcome: Those found faithful are clothed in the white raiment of Christ’s righteousness and accounted worthy of the first resurrection and eternal life Revelation 3:5.
The Scapegoat: At the close of the judgment, the guilt for all the sins Christ has borne will be placed upon Satan, the originator of sin, just as sins were symbolically placed on the scapegoat in the typical service Leviticus 16:21-22.
📜 Individual Responsibility
Because we are living in the great antitypical Day of Atonement, it is a time for solemn heart-searching and spiritual preparation.
Afflicting the Soul: Just as ancient Israel was required to humble themselves on the Day of Atonement, we are called to deep repentance and a life in harmony with God's law Leviticus 23:29-30.
Character Preparation: The purpose of the third angel’s message is to prepare a people to stand true during this investigative process.
Individual Standing: Each person is tested individually; the devotion of one cannot offset the lack of anotherEze 14:20.
Knowing that our cases are currently under review should lead us to watch and pray, ensuring our lives reflect the character of Christ Luke 21:34-36.
