John 11:26: The Promise of Eternal Life
If death is only a temporary sleep, what does it mean to never die?

John 11:26 is a divine promise that those who possess a living faith in Jesus Christ are granted an eternal life that remains secure even through the sleep of the first death. 🌟
The Gift of Eternal Life
Believing in Jesus Christ provides an "eternal shall be," changing a mere possibility of salvation into an absolute certainty of never perishing. This promise does not refer to the natural physical life derived from Adam, which is transitory and destined to end, but to the zoe-life derived from Christ, which is always everlasting. When we accept Jesus, we accept His life, and though we may sleep in the grave, He safely keeps that eternal life for us until He wakes us up to receive it again.
Understanding the "Never Die" Promise
The First Death is Temporary: Every person who has ever lived will eventually be restored to life to hear the voice of the Son of God John 5:28-29. This first physical death is a result of Adam's transgression and is compared to a sleep from which all will return 1 Corinthians 15:22.
Victory Over the Second Death: The promise that a believer "shall never die" specifically means they shall not be hurt by the second death Revelation 2:11. While the wicked are raised to face the resurrection of damnation and ultimate annihilation in the lake of fire, the second death has no power over those who have part in the first resurrection Revelation 20:6.
A Living Experience Now: This life is not something for the future only; we are to experience the power of His resurrection life in our hearts today Romans 6:4. By looking to Jesus and trusting in His merits, the soul is lifted into the sunshine of God’s countenance and finds a hope that acts as an anchor.
The Nature of True Faith
To "believe" in the sense Jesus asks is not a cheap or lazy faith unsupported by works. It is an earnest, abiding faith that chooses Christ as its portion forever and seeks to perfect a character that can stand the test of the judgment. Those who believe will walk as true branches of the living vine, allowing Christ to mold and fashion them after His own likeness.
The Two Resurrections
There is an awe-inspiring truth that every individual will be recreated to stand upon the earth again. However, we have a choice regarding which resurrection we will join:
The Resurrection of Life: Occurs at the second advent when the dead in Christ rise first with incorruptible, immortal bodies 1 Thessalonians 4:161 Corinthians 15:52-53.
The Resurrection of Damnation: Occurs a thousand years later, where the wicked come forth bearing the marks of the curse to face final destruction Revelation 20:5.
Jesus asks each of us, "Believest thou this?" 🕊️ Accepting this truth means recognizing that Christ has already burst the fetters of the tomb and holds the keys of death and the grave. By planting our feet firmly on the path of obedience and faith, we are assured that no power can pluck us out of His hand John 10:28.

Has Ellen White a refference to this Verse?
AdventAI
Yes, Ellen White provides profound insights into this verse, explaining that Christ's words to Martha serve as a divine assurance that for the believer, death is merely a temporary sleep. This promise highlights that those who maintain a living connection with Christ through faith possess a life that is original, unborrowed, and underived, ensuring they will never experience eternal extinction. While the body may rest in the grave, the soul's life is hid with Christ in God, looking forward to the glorious morning when the Life-giver shall break the fetters of the tomb. Furthermore, this verse points to the translation of the living righteous at the second coming, who will be taken to heaven without seeing death at all.
...e a true direction to her faith, Jesus declared, “I am the resurrection, and the life.” In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, underived. “He that hath the Son hath life.” 1 John 5:12. The divinity of Christ is the believer's assurance of eternal life. “He that believeth in Me,” said Jesus, “though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?” Christ here looks forward to the time of His second coming. Then the righteous dead shall be raised incorruptible, and the living righteous shall be translated to heaven without seeing death.
