What It Means to Have an Identity in Christ
What does it truly mean to let your old self die for a new life?
What does it mean to have an identity in Christ
AdventAI
Having an identity in Christ means experiencing a total transformation of your character and nature, where your old life is crucified and Christ lives His life through you Galatians 2:20. This identity is not merely a name or a profession, but a living, active union with the Savior that results in the spontaneous fruit of the Spirit appearing in your daily actions Galatians 5:22-23.
A New Creation Through Death and Life
Crucifying the Old Self: To have an identity in Christ, the "old man" of sin must be crucified so that the body of sin is destroyed and we no longer serve it Romans 6:6-7.
A New Birth: This experience is a new birth where you are made a completely new creature, receiving a new heart and a new mind 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Christ Living in You: True identity is found when self ceases to wrestle for supremacy and human identity is lost in Jesus Christ, so that He acts through all your powers of body, soul, and spirit Galatians 2:20.
Reflecting the Character of Christ
The Mark of Character: Identity with Christ is established when you possess the very elements of His character, such as humility, self-denial, and benevolence.
Spontaneous Fruit: The virtues of love, joy, peace, and long-suffering cannot be forced; they must flow naturally from a heart where Christ dwells continually.
The Mold of the Master: Christian identity means receiving "Christ’s mold" and imitating His character in every sphere of action, whether at home or in the world.
Unity and Relationship
Oneness with Brethren: Because those in Christ are one with Him, they are also one with each other; Christ in one believer will always recognize and harmonize with Christ in another believer John 17:21.
Diversity in Unity: While believers are united in mind, purpose, and character, this union does not destroy the distinct personality or identity of the individual.
Unbroken Communion: Identity in Christ provides a means for your whole life to be an unbroken communion with Him, where your weakness is united to His strength and your ignorance to His wisdom.
The Evidence of True Identity
Active Obedience: A claim to this identity is only valid if the daily life conforms to the works of Christ and is obedient to God's requirements Luke 6:46.
Integrity in Trials: Those with a true identity in Christ will maintain unwavering principle even when the work moves hard or when surrounded by unfavorable influences.
The Seal of God: This identity is ultimately tied to the name of God being written in the mind and heart, acting as a seal of His ownership Revelation 14:1.
Striving for identity with the Redeemer is a constant growth, much like Enoch who walked with God and was transformed into the divine image day by day. 🌟
