Will There Be a Sea in the New Earth?
Why would a perfect new earth exist without any oceans or seas?
Will there be a sea in the new earth New Jerusalem
AdventAI
There will be no more sea in the new earth as we know it today, though a new sea may exist in a different form and position Revelation 21:1.
The Passing of the Old Sea
The first heaven, the first earth, and the present sea will pass away to make room for God’s new creation Revelation 21:1. The absence of the sea signifies the removal of barriers that currently divide friends and loved ones. In the earth made new, there will be no fierce torrents, no restless murmuring waves, and no engulfing ocean to separate those who love one another. This transition marks the end of the world’s current course, which was altered at the time of the flood when the fountains of the great deep were broken up and vast seas covered the surface Genesis 7:11.
The Possibility of a New Sea
While the "first sea" is no more, this does not necessarily mean the new earth will be devoid of large bodies of water.
A Different Distribution: The new sea may occupy a different position and be distributed differently than the old one.
Living Waters: A pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeds from the throne of God and the Lamb within the New Jerusalem Revelation 22:1.
Discharge of the River: It is understood that this river, which flows through the street of the city, must discharge its waters somewhere, potentially into a new-earth sea.
Prophetic Evidence: Sacred prophecy indicates that Christ’s future dominion shall be from "sea even to sea," suggesting the presence of such bodies in the restored world Zechariah 9:10.
The Beauty of the New Earth
The new earth will be a place of unimaginable beauty and peace, where the glory of God lightens everything Revelation 21:23.
No More Curse: There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain, for the former things have passed away Revelation 21:4.
Lush Landscapes: The redeemed will enjoy fields of living green, beautiful woods, and mountains covered with never-fading flowers like roses and lilies.
The Metropolis: The New Jerusalem will serve as the capital and metropolis of this glorified earth Revelation 21:2.
A Clean Universe: After the earth is purified by fire, every sign of the curse will be gone, and the entire universe will be clean and in perfect harmony once again.
The saved will inhabit this beautiful land forever, walking in the light of the City of Gold and drinking from the fountain of the water of life freely Revelation 21:6.
