Ice Jam at Niagara.

Last month, as a result of the terrible hurricane that swept the lakes, Niagara River channel became blocked with ice. So effectual was the jam of ice that water ceased to find its way over the falls for a time. The Ontario Power Company's plant was damaged to the extent of $100,000. Under the orders of Assistant State Engineer Kunzie, the ice was blasted out of the channel, the work lasting from Thursday until the following Sunday. Nothing like this jam has happened there since the winter of 1844-45, and this time lives and property were endangered to a more pronounced extent than at any other time on record.
